Sell house contents

Have an entire house to clear and don't know where to start? Vintage LX buys complete house contents throughout the country — furniture, paintings, silverware, china, books, records and everything else. We come to see the house, make a single offer for the whole lot, pay you on the spot and take care of the removal. We hand the house back to you empty, ready for completion of sale or for letting.

Why Vintage LX

Why sell us the contents of your house

01

We take the whole lot, not just what is valuable

The hardest part of clearing a house is finding someone who will take everything. We buy the complete contents — the valuable pieces and those with no market.
02

One team, from start to finish

Valuation, removal, transport and cleaning. No need to hire vans, helpers or skips yourself.
03

Timescales that respect yours

A completion date set, keys to hand over or a tenancy coming to an end: we work around your date, not ours.
What has value

What makes house contents worth more

We buy the whole house — but not everything in it has a market. These six families of pieces are what push the offer up, and they are the best place to start your photographs.
Signet ring and antique gold chains on dark wood

Jewellery and gold

Wedding rings, chains, rings and family gold — even broken, odd or unmatched.
Complete sterling silver cutlery canteen in its lined box, with a candlestick beside it

Cutlery canteens and silverware

Complete cutlery canteens in their boxes, tableware, candlesticks and hallmarked sterling pieces.
Oil painting in a gilded frame leaning against a dark wall

Paintings and art

Oil paintings, watercolours, prints and sculpture. A signature helps, but is not essential.
Hand-painted porcelain vase, decorated plate and cut-crystal decanter

Porcelain and crystal

Complete dinner services, vases, Portuguese faience and fine crystal.
Open pocket watch, wristwatch and a tray of antique coins

Watches and collections

Pocket watches and wristwatches, coins, medals and organised collections.
Bronze statuette, brass lamp with green shade and marquetry box

Decorative pieces and curiosities

Lamps, bronzes, boxes, fans, ivories and whatever sat in the living-room display cabinet.
The rest of the house — everyday furniture, mattresses, old appliances, clothing — we take all the same: what is still usable is donated, and what has no market goes to the recycling centre. It is simply not what pays for the work.
When the valuable pieces cover the removal, you are paid. When they do not, we tell you the difference in writing before we touch anything.
How it is calculated

How the value of a house's contents is calculated

House contents are not weighed. The value of an entire house comes from five factors that we assess on site — and the work of clearing it goes into the same account, with the figures in plain sight.

01

What is of value in the whole

Period furniture, paintings, silverware, porcelain, clocks and watches, jewellery, books and records are what push the value up. A single signed piece can change the entire offer.
02

Volume and type of property

A two-bedroom flat (T2) is not a house with a basement, attic and garage. The volume determines how many team days and how many van trips are needed.
03

Access and logistics

A walk-up with no lift, narrow stairs, streets with no parking or pieces that will not fit through the door all call for more people and more time — and that counts.
04

What has no market

Mattresses, old appliances, clothing and rubble carry a cost for collection and for taking them to the recycling centre. We tell you clearly what weighs on each side of the account.
05

The time you have to hand the house over

Clearing a house in 48 hours takes far more staff than doing it in three weeks. The sooner you call us, the better the offer we can make.
We come to see the house

We buy house contents anywhere in Portugal

We start with the photographs. With a few images and the address, we can quickly tell you whether there is a deal to be done — and spare you waiting for a visit that might not have been worthwhile for either of us. When we go ahead, we come to see the house and leave with a firm offer.

01

Sell the contents of your house without having to sort anything

Start by sending photographs of the rooms and of anything you think may be valuable. If we go ahead, we book a visit and go through the house room by room, including the storeroom, attic and garage — you don't need to choose anything or tidy anything up; that is what we are there to do. The visit is free, anywhere in mainland Portugal and the islands, and you are not tied to anything.
02

House contents in Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra and Oeiras

In the Lisbon area we can often come to see the house the very same day, as soon as we have seen the photographs. We frequently work in old buildings in the city centre, houses along the Cascais line and apartments in Sintra and Oeiras — houses with no lift, narrow stairs and streets with no parking are our everyday work.
03

We clear the house, within the time you need

If you accept the offer, you are paid on the spot and we schedule the removal for the date that suits you: completion of sale, handover of keys or end of tenancy. We take what has a market, donate what is still usable and take the rest to the recycling centre — no vans or skips for you to arrange.
An empty house

Clear the house without the problem landing on you

A move into a care home, the sale of the property, emigration or an inheritance no one knows how to divide: the reasons vary, but the problem is always the same — a full house and a deadline approaching. We solve both at once.
Don't pay to throw away things that could be worth money. Before calling a removals company, let us see what you have at home.
01

It starts with photographs

Send us a few images and the address. We quickly tell you whether there is a deal — and when we go ahead, the visit is free of charge.
02

One offer for the whole lot

A single figure for all the contents, explained piece by piece, with no small print.
03

House handed back empty and swept

We remove everything, take care of whatever has no market and leave the house ready to hand over.
Frequently asked questions

Questions from people selling house contents

Do you buy all the contents or only the valuable pieces?

We buy the whole lot — that is the difference. We don't pick out half a dozen pieces and leave the house half done. What has value goes into the offer; what doesn't, we take care of.

How long does it take to clear a house?

An ordinary apartment takes one to two days. A house with a basement and attic can take a week. The date is written into the offer, and we keep to it.

Do you also deal with rubbish and things that have no market?

Yes, and we take everything — we don't just pick out the good pieces. What has no market goes to the recycling centre and what is still usable is donated. As collection and disposal carry a cost, that amount goes into the account for the whole lot. When the valuable pieces are not enough to cover it, we tell you the difference before we touch anything.

Could there be cases where I have to pay?

There could. When a house has little of value and a lot to remove, what we buy does not cover the work of clearing it. In those cases there is a cost, and we tell you upfront and in writing — and the service is the same: we take everything and the house is left ready to hand over. The figure comes before the work, never at the end.

The house is inherited and there are several of us heirs. How do you handle it?

We carry out the valuation and provide a written offer that can be shared among the heirs. We only go ahead once there is agreement, and with whoever has the authority to sell.

Is there any charge for the valuation?

None. Looking at your photographs and replying costs nothing, and when we come to see the house, the visit and the valuation are also free, anywhere in the country. You are under no obligation to sell anything.
