How it is calculated
How the value of your gold is calculated
The price of gold is set daily by the international markets, but the final value of your piece depends on five factors. We analyse each of them rigorously, in front of you.

01
Purity (carats)
This is the most decisive factor. 24ct is pure gold (99.9%), 22ct is 91.6%, 18ct is 75% — the most common in jewellery —, 14ct is 58.5% and 9ct is 37.5%. The higher the purity, the greater the value.
02
Weight in grams
Gold is measured by the gram: the heavier the piece — chain, ring, bracelet or earring —, the higher the final amount. Even small quantities can be worth a significant sum.
03
Type of piece
Chains and bars are valued mainly for their purity and how easily they can be refined. With jewellery, design and condition can add value. Special objects — pens, lighters — appeal to collectors. If you also have silver, see how our silver-buying service works.
04
Condition
Pieces without deep scratches, dents or wear are more highly valued for resale. Damaged pieces are valued by the weight and purity of the gold.
05
Age and historical value
Antique pieces, or those signed by well-known goldsmiths, can be worth far more than their metal, thanks to their rarity and their appeal to collectors. This is where decades of experience make the difference.
Home valuation
Sell gold anywhere in Portugal: we come to you
There is no need to travel or go from shop to shop: we come to your home, anywhere in the country — or welcome you at our shop in Lisbon.

01
Sell used gold without leaving home
We book the visit at a time that suits you, anywhere in mainland Portugal and the islands. We bring precision scales and carry out the valuation in front of you, piece by piece. It is free and you are not tied to anything: if you do not accept the offer, you do not pay for the visit.
02
Sell gold in Lisbon: our shop is open
If you are in Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra or Oeiras, you can bring your pieces to Areeiro and leave with the money the same day — simply book your visit. Unlike most gold-buying shops, we have a permanent address, see one client at a time by appointment, and offer a virtual tour of the shop — so you can see who we are before you walk in.
03
Sell gold at the best price, with the sums in plain sight
The value starts from the day's international gold price and the actual fineness of your pieces, not from a table of our own. We show you the calculation as we make it and explain every factor. If you accept, you are paid immediately.
Extra income
Sell gold jewellery you no longer wear
Selling gold jewellery is an increasingly popular way to raise cash. If you have jewellery at home that you no longer wear, inherited pieces or antique gold objects, now is the right time to turn them into money — with the utmost discretion.
Don't rush, and don't sell your gold to strangers. Trust a house with decades of experience and an honest, capable team.

Common questions from people selling gold
What is my gold worth?
It depends on the purity in carats, the weight in grams, the type of piece, its condition and any historical value. We assess all of these factors in front of you, with precision scales and at no cost whatsoever. If for now you only want to know what it is worth, see our jewellery, gold and silver valuation.
Will you come to my home anywhere in the country?
Yes. We carry out home valuations throughout mainland Portugal and the islands. Book an appointment with us and a specialist will come to your home. If you prefer, you can also bring your pieces to our shop in Areeiro, Lisbon.
How and when do I get paid?
If you accept our offer, payment is made on the spot, with no red tape. Beforehand, we explain clearly how we arrived at that figure.
Is there any cost or obligation for the valuation?
None. The valuation is free and without obligation: you find out what your gold is worth and then decide freely.
Do you buy broken or damaged pieces?
Yes. Broken, bent or odd pieces are valued by weight and purity. There is no need to sort, polish or clean anything beforehand.
Complete guide
Can you read the marks on your gold?
Before selling, it is worth understanding what is engraved on your pieces. In Portugal the legal fineness of gold ranges from 375 to 999 parts per thousand, and the outline of the hallmark tells you whether the piece was marked in Lisbon or in Porto. We have brought it all together in a guide: the table of finenesses and carats, old and current marks, and what the law requires of those who sell. Read the guide to Portuguese gold marks and hallmarks.
